Akademiska Hus breaks ground for Studenthus Valla – the new hub of Linköping University

Tuesday, 13 June 2017
Akademiska Hus breaks ground for Studenthus Valla, part of Linköping University. The student house will be a central part of campus and help establish Campus Valla as a creative and preferred place to study. The building is estimated to be ready during the summer of 2019 and is approximately 15 000 m2 spread over seven floors.

Linköping University and Akademiska Hus work together to further develop Campus Valla and cement its position as the number one choice of universities, where the students and their education remain in focus. The starting point is the university’s vision about being a university with international luminosity which stands strong in comparison with other universities around the country.

Present during the ceremony was Helen Dannetun, headmaster at Linköping University, Erik Claesson, President of the Student Union and Magnus Huss, Director of Business Development at Akademiska Hus.

“During its 40 years, Campus Valla has steadily grown, and now it is finally time for the students to get their own building,” says Helen Danntun, headmaster at Linköping University. “The new building will be a natural hub in the students’ lives and will contain study places, library, inviting places to rest or just hang out with other students. This ceremony was a milestone for us and in a few years’ time we will be able to say: Finally!”

Studenthus Valla will, with its seven floors, become the natural entrance to the University which has been missing as well as function as a meeting point for students, faculty and visitors. A wide range of services will be available, such as library, restaurant, student kitchen, café, student services and 900 study places.

“Linköping is constantly growing and Vallastaden, next to this campus, is a great example of that. It’s therefore logical that Campus Valla continues to grow as well and the new student house with its central location is a natural part of that development. We are very proud and happy to be breaking ground today and to, together with Linköping University, continue the development of Campus Valla,” says Magnus Huss, Director of Business Development at Akademiska Hus.

The new building will meet the high demands of energy efficiency and has a clear ambition to achieve Miljöbyggnad Guld, awarded by Sweden Green Building Council (an established member of World Green Building Council).

Akademiska Hus is investing approximately 400m SEK in the project which is expected to be completed in summer 2019.
