Invest in sustainable Sweden as a nation of knowledge

Akademiska Hus has so far issued two green bonds. It gives lenders a unique opportunity to invest in sustainable projects that strengthen Sweden as a nation of knowledge.

As one of the largest property companies in the country, Akademiska Hus has a large responsibility for making a long-term contribution to the development of a sustainable society. Consequently, sustainability permeates everything we do when we work in close cooperation with our customers to build and manage knowledge environments for research, education and innovation. For us, minimising the climate impact of individual buildings is just as important as ensuring that an entire campus promotes the interplay of social, financial and environmental values.

Akademiska Hus’ sustainability initiatives are based on the ten principles of the UN Global Compact regarding human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption, as well as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. At the end of 2021 we adopted a new climate and energy strategy. It provides clarity and guidance for our decisions and our actions, enabling us to achieve our new climate goal – climate neutrality throughout the value chain by 2035.

Updated green framework

As part of our financial sustainability initiative, Akademiska Hus and Handelsbanken have developed a green framework to issue green bonds. The framework was updated in June 2023 and has now been expanded to include components of the EU Taxonomy criteria and creates opportunities for additional green financing.

The formulation of the framework is based on Green Bond Principles 2021. The content has been reviewed by Cicero Shades of Green, which has assigned the framework a Medium Green rating.

Our green bonds are issued under our regular EMTN programme and will be followed up through annual reports that will be presented on the Akademiska Hus website.
