Akademiska Hus invests billions in Albano campus

Ground was broken for Albano in November last year. The investment that has now been decided is part of a larger initiative comprising three buildings for Stockholm University and one building for the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).The buildings will consist of both activity-based and traditional office and teaching environments with high flexibility to suit a variety of needs.The teaching facilities will also include break areas and pantries for students. The buildings will also house general services, including cafés and restaurants, as well as a common teaching lab for Stockholm University and KTH (a “Science Center”).

As Stockholm University and KTH grow, new premises are needed for both the short and long term, where the universities can act and interact – with each other and with the community. A total of approximately 100,000 square metres of university facilities will be built and approximately 1,000 student housing units.

“A variety of activities will contribute to a vibrant environment, twenty-four hours a day. Development of the Albano campus is based on socioecological urban planning, giving consideration not only to humans but also to biodiversity. In addition, the plans include extremely energy-efficient buildings with locally produced energy,” says Sten Wetterblad, Regional Director for Akademiska Hus Stockholm Region.

BSK Arkitekter and Christensen & Co Arkitekter are the architects for the university facilities.
