Akademiska Hus main sponsor for BEYOND 2020

Thursday, 11 April 2019
Next summer, Gothenburg will host BEYOND 2020, one of the largest conferences in the world on the sustainable built environment. As part of Akademiska Hus’ vision for a zero carbon footprint and its aim to take the lead for a sustainable construction and property industry, the company is serving as the main sponsor of the conference.

- When researchers and politicians meet with representatives of the public sector and industry in a common arena with the goal of arriving at common practical solutions to achieve the UN goals for sustainable cities and communities, decent work and quality education for everyone, it is a unique place for us to be involved and have an influence, find inspiration and challenge others to implement true change,” says Kerstin Lindberg Göransson, President of Akademiska Hus.

The overarching theme of the conference is to link the UN sustainable development goals to the built environment industry in order to identify roles and practical solutions, thereby helping to achieve goal 11, sustainable cities and communities, by 2030.

- It is an honour to have Akademiska Hus onboard this exciting journey towards BEYOND 2020, says Holger Wallbaum, Professor in Sustainable building at Chalmers University of Technology and BEYOND 2020 conference Chair.

Sponsorship provides a major opportunity to engage in dialogue on cross-border measures needed to achieve a climate-neutral construction and property industry. Akademiska Hus will also participate with great dedication to highlight insights and experiences regarding how good knowledge and learning environments can contribute to sustainability and well-being, while enhancing the attractiveness of higher education and research in a way that is inclusive and open to everyone.

- Akademiska Hus’ ambitious work for a sustainable long-term development of university and college campuses including student housing will certainly add a different perspective to the challenges of the built environment we aim to tackle in the conference. Their expertise and focus on education & research activities is a perfect match with one of the conference themes: SDG 4 Quality Education. Together with them, we believe that the success of education centres is also relying on innovative, modern knowledge environments that are able to attract talents from all over the world, says Holger Wallbaum.

When the conference kicks off, 2,000 participants from all over the world are expected to gather in Gothenburg for a packed three-day programme. Chalmers and RISE are local hosts, with the support of Johanneberg Science Park and the City of Gothenburg.
