Akademiska Hus has submitted an application for planning permission for Medicinareberget. The application aims to develop the area into an integrated district with a clear scientific and urban identity. The investment could include as much as 240,000 square meters of building rights. The plan is for modern research environments, commercial premises, housing, student and researcher housing, as well as service functions that bring life to the site around the clock.
Through smart urban planning, improved routes and new entrances, Medicinareberget can be more clearly integrated with the rest of Gothenburg, while retaining the area's distinctive character as Gothenburg's centre for life science and natural sciences.
For over half a century, Medicinareberget has been an obvious centre for medical and scientific research in Gothenburg. Medicinaregatan got its name as early as 1957 and since then the area has emerged as a cohesive and identity-creating campus. Here, buildings from the turn of the last century coexist with the brand new Natrium, which houses Gothenburg's Faculty of Science.
The scientific legacy is tangible – but it is not static. Today, Medicinareberget is characterized by movement, development and new synergies between institutions, business and healthcare. It is precisely in the meeting between history and the future that the area gets its unique attractiveness.
