Grand opening of Built Environment Building at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg
Friday, 22 September 2017The Built Environment project, which began in January 2016, involved extensive renovations of the Architecture Building and the Väg och Vatten 1 lecture hall building. Chalmers’ vision for the building is to promote collaboration and integration, which will characterise the future of learning and research within Chalmers Built Environment, including the departments of Architecture and Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The goal of the renovation project has been to contribute to more creative and stimulating learning environments. The new premises will encourage meetings between undergraduate and graduate students from the different departments in the new centrally located café and unique library and study environment, along with modern workplaces, meeting places and learning and student environments.
The focus has been on creating a sustainable building from every perspective. The Built Environment Building meets the requirements for a Silver rating according to the Miljöbyggnad environmental certification system, which was a large technical challenge because of the age of the building.
Akademiska Hus invested a total of approximately SEK 360 million in the renovation project, for which it was engaged by Chalmersfastigheter and Chalmers University of Technology. The collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology, Chalmersfastigheter, Veidekke and White has been successful. The result is an open and attractive knowledge environment, well adapted to activities at Chalmers.
