Popular tree walk on KTH's campus

There was a great turnout when Akademiska Hus invited to a tree walk on KTH Campus. Around 60 people joined, most of them employees from the university.

This is the first time that Akademiska Hus has arranged a tree walk on campus, but after the good result, it will probably not be the last.

The idea came in connection with a tree inspection on campus together with KTH, a professional arborist and our property manager. The purpose of the walk was to show the species richness we have in our local environment and the importance of preserving it.

Trees and greenery are important for outdoor environments, among other things because they create well-being and tranquility. On campus there is a great diversity of species of trees, where the large trees are dominated by birch and oak. An interesting aspect is that large/tall trees are important as height markers in our living environment because they give us a vertical reference that buildings alone cannot provide.

Great interest and good atmosphere

The interest during the tour was great and the questions were many, e.g. the arborists were asked to tell about different tree diseases and species. The prehistoric gin that grows at the Sister & Bror restaurant was admired for its size and well-being. There were also discussions about fauna depots and how the foliage and tree crown can give signs of how the tree is doing.

One of the purposes of the activity was to tell how we care for and maintain the trees so that they stay strong and healthy and can live a long time. It is not always easy to understand or see when a tree is sick, so it was important to have information directly from experts.

The tree walk ended with a joint lunch in the sun outside Akademiska Hus' office on Drottning Kristinas väg.
