Bus
Direct bus 1 to and from the city center runs every ten minutes during most of the day. City buses 2, 3, 52, 500 and 501 as well as many county and express buses also stop at the university.

Cycle

There are plenty of bicycle racks around the University and many cycle paths to get there. From Stora Torget it is about 7 kilometres to Karlstad University and by bike you can follow the pink cycle path that leads to Kronoparken where the university is located. There is also an air station for pumping up bicycle tyres at the bus stop and by buildings 11 and 1D.

Train

Several trains stop at the train station in Välsviken just south of the university. From there, bus 53 takes you to the university in a few minutes. From Karlstad Central Station, take direct bus 1 from Stora Torget.

Parking passenger car

Staff and visitors by car are directed to paid parking spaces within Karlstad University. Fees can be paid via the Smart Park app, Easypark or Mobill.

Alternatively, there is parking west of Universitetsgatan, at Studenternas hus.

Charging for electric cars

It is possible to charge your electric car at the Library Building and building 21.

Parking for the disabled

Vehicles with a permit for people with reduced mobility park free of charge at Karlstad University. Special spaces are available near entrances or in other visitor parking lots. If spaces are full, you may park freely on campus with a permit, provided you do not block traffic.

Motorcycle

Please use designated motorcycle parking spaces. For safety reasons and to maintain accessibility, parking is not permitted at entrances. Located at building 11.

Rental car

If you have rented a car with access to Karlstad University, you will find the rental car parking north of building 12.

The campus offers a wide range of services, study spaces, restaurants and cafés. The campus area offers plenty of creative outdoor environments, meeting places and sports activities.

Restaurants

Gym

Nordic Wellness is located in building 3D in the University. More information about their activities can be found here: Karlstad Campus | Nordic Wellness

Trade area

Within walking distance and 4 minutes by bus, you will find the Välsviken shopping area. Information on which businesses are located there can be found here: Shops – Välsviken You can easily get to and from the University to the city center by bus.

Grocery store

Located in the center of Kronoparken. Approximately 10 minutes walking distance.

Outdoor environments

At the university, there is access to a variety of different types of outdoor environments for relaxation, studies and activities. For example, the University Park, the square outside building 11 and the forest “sKAUgen” outside building 9.

Cultural environment

Our knowledge environments often include high-quality art, architecture and design. We always work towards the best possible waste management on campus in collaboration with our tenants. Karlstad University as a tenant is responsible for waste management internally. In the outdoor environment, there are sorting bins at selected locations around the area.
