The artist Johan Paalzow, the creator of Moby Dick, is currently on site at Frescati and answered three quick questions:
What's going on here?
I am restoring Moby Dick that came here to Frescati in 2006 from Konradsberg on Kungsholmen where it previously stood for many years. We do a basic cleaning and remove dirt, deposits, moss and some graffiti. After that, the artwork is sanded, waxed and graffiti-protected. Finally, we fill up with pigment so it regains its color that stands beautifully against the Södra Houses here at Stockholm University.
How long does it take?
It will take about 2.5 days, the work must be done very carefully because it is such an old piece. Fortunately, it is a very fun job.
What do you think of this particular work?
Since this is my first public work, I'm a little extra passionate about it.
If you like Moby Dick, you might also like my latest permanent works that can be found in Hötogsskraporna, where the theme is bees: "The city bees move in".
