The development of Kräftriket aims to strengthen the area's role as a vibrant and dynamic campus environment. Akademiska Hus plans to complement the area by Brunnsviken with approximately 100 new housing units, providing accommodation for around 250 residents. The focus is also on enhancing the existing property portfolio and welcoming new tenants to the premises vacated when Stockholm University relocated from Kräftriket to Akademiska Hus' new, nearby campus in Albano.
A dynamic knowledge environment
Kräftriket is part of the Royal National City Park and has long been a central hub for students and researchers. With new housing, the area can become an even more attractive setting for studies and social interaction. At the same time, it reconnects with the site's historical roots, dating back to the era of the Veterinary College when employees lived in the buildings within the area.
"Stockholm has a great need for more housing for students and researchers. At Kräftriket, Akademiska Hus can contribute with accommodation in a prime location, helping to develop the area into a vibrant and safe environment around the clock," says Anna Alsborger, Property Director at Akademiska Hus.

Modern development in harmony with history and nature
The development of the area will preserve its significant cultural and environmental values while adapting the older buildings for modern use. Enhancing greenery and strengthening biodiversity are also key priorities.
"Kräftriket has exceptional potential as a place for experiences and recreation for Stockholm residents. The area could become a more integrated part of the recreational route along Brunnsviken, with stronger connections to Albano and further towards the greater Norra Djurgården area," says Anna Alsborger.
The detailed development plan has been prepared in collaboration with the City of Stockholm, and Akademiska Hus has also engaged in dialogue with the Royal Djurgården Administration, the County Administrative Board, the National Property Board of Sweden, and other authorities, agencies, and stakeholders. Any potential construction requires the legal enforcement of the detailed development plan as well as further approvals from the City of Stockholm and Akademiska Hus.
