Akademiska Hus initiates collaboration with the United Student Unions of Gothenburg

To create even better campus environments in Gothenburg, Akademiska Hus has signed a long-term collaboration agreement with the Gothenburg United Student Unions (GFS). The goal is to jointly develop attractive, sustainable and inclusive environments where students can thrive, grow and influence their everyday lives.

The agreement came into effect on 1 April 2025 and aims to strengthen dialogue with students – those who know their campuses best and understand what works in practice. GFS, representing students at both the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology, will be an important partner in the development work moving forward.

"This collaboration means that we gain a better insight into the students' needs and can design our campuses accordingly. We want to create environments that provide good conditions for both studies and a rich student life," says Pontus Isaksson, Property Area Manager at Akademiska Hus.

The collaboration includes, among other things, the development of new study places and learning environments, support for pilot projects, and a joint work with the City of Gothenburg's strategy to strengthen the city's attractiveness as a student city. Through quarterly reconciliations and close cooperation, the efforts will be followed up and further developed over time.

"We are pleased to see Akademiska Hus' commitment to student issues. Akademiska Hus is a key player in the work to improve the situation for students in Gothenburg through the development of campuses, student housing and other initiatives to make Gothenburg a better student city. Our collaboration makes it easier for us to raise the students' voice and needs. Now we are moving forward together," says Melker Wargbaner, chairman of GFS.

Akademiska Hus contributes expertise and targeted resources to joint projects, while GFS is responsible for contact with students and for highlighting needs and ideas directly from the target group. Together, the conditions are created for a campus where both knowledge and student life can take place.
