The Student Palace consists of about 1,200 square meters of land and a five-story building of about 4,500 square meters. The property is located on Norrtullsgatan in Vasastan with proximity to Observatorielunden, Odenplan and communications in the form of metro, commuter trains and buses.
Since the late 1990s, the Student Palace has contained study places and group rooms. The premises have been rented by Stockholm University but also used by students at other universities in the Stockholm area. In December 2020, Stockholm University chose to terminate the lease and instead gather its study places on campus Albano, a brand new campus area in Stockholm that Akademiska Hus is building and developing together with a number of other actors. Akademiska Hus therefore no longer has the opportunity to rent out Studentpalatset to its core customer, which is universities and colleges.
"The Student Palace has been an appreciated study place by many and that it is now the Stockholm School of Economics that is taking over ownership is very gratifying. In this way, the building will be able to continue to be a knowledge environment and benefit students," says Magnus Huss, Market Area Director at Akademiska Hus.
The Stockholm School of Economics will take possession of the property on 1 April 2022.
"This is a unique opportunity for the School of Business, Economics and Law and we are extremely pleased to be able to expand our campus across the Observatory Park. The Student Palace is a fantastic building and we look forward to developing it into an active and vibrant knowledge environment," says Lars Strannegård, President of the Stockholm School of Economics.
The consulting company Nordanö has advised Akademiska Hus in the sale.
