Breakfast Talk – The good thing about moving trees instead of cutting them down

The Breakfast Talk is a great opportunity to gather in a relaxed environment before the start of the working day, where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet while gaining new knowledge from our guest speakers.

The good thing about moving trees instead of cutting them down

Petter Åkerblom from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU)

The tramway makes a mess of the approximately 200 oak trees along Ulls väg through Campus Ultuna. Track and pipe routing means that the trees have to be removed. In a unique collaboration between Uppsala Municipality, SLU, and Akademiska Hus, the majority will be moved into the campus area with proven technology. The question is what happens in the oak when it is moved? How fun is it really to be uprooted? At this breakfast seminar, the thoughts behind a unique research project that will find out about this are presented.

Petter Åkerblom is a landscape architect and senior lecturer at the Department of Urban and Rural Development at SLU Ultuna with many years of experience in knowledge development and teaching in the field.
