New university library at campus Näckrosen
The University Library at Korsvägen in Gothenburg needs new premises to continue to develop modern library operations and create a creative, physical meeting place for academia and society.

About the new university library at campus Näckrosen
Therefore, Akademiska Hus is planning together with the University of Gothenburg for a new and more appropriate building. The new library building will bring together the current Humanities Library, the Art Library and the Music and Drama Library under the same roof and will be located where the University of Gothenburg's Humanities Library is located today.
A new university library is part of the Centre for Art, Culture and the Humanities that the University of Gothenburg is developing in the Näckrosen area around Renströmsparken in the coming years. With its proximity to the cultural institutions around Götaplatsen and the future station for the West Link train tunnel at Korsvägen, it is a strategic location that can open up and connect the university with the city and the people.
Project in Early Stages
- The project is in its early stages and requires approval from the Akademiska Hus board as well as necessary government permits to be realized.

New Inquiry for Gothenburg University Library
In 2020 and 2021, a project competition was held for the design of the new library. The jury included representatives from Akademiska Hus, the University of Gothenburg, the City of Gothenburg and Architects Sweden. The winner, which was announced on 1 June 2021, was the Danish architectural firm Cobe and their proposal Kunskapens fyr.
In 2023, a new investigation was started to determine the possibility of meeting the needs of the University Library at the University of Gothenburg in existing buildings and thus reducing new construction within the project. The investigation is expected to continue until autumn 2024. The project is still in its early stages.
