Akademiska Hus is now carrying out an extensive campus transformation in close collaboration with Luleå University of Technology. In total, Akademiska Hus expects to invest approximately SEK 5.5 billion in the project, which goes under the name Future Campus Luleå. The entire campus transformation is planned to be completed in 2034.
"The development of the campus in Luleå is the largest investment in Akademiska Hus' history and is necessary because several of the existing buildings from the 1970s are in poor condition and have reached their structural lifespan. We look forward to working with Luleå University of Technology to create a sustainable and long-term designed campus, which meets both current and future needs and where there is room for the university's continued development, says Caroline Arehult, CEO of Akademiska Hus.
In June 2026, ground preparation work will start for the construction of the first building in the initiative, where the university's vibration-sensitive equipment will be gathered. Akademiska Hus is investing just over SEK 400 million in the approximately 4,500 square meter building, which is designed with a robust core for high-precision measurements, experiments and technology development. The building will have a flexible and adaptable design to meet future research needs and is planned to be ready for occupancy in 2029.

The development of the Future Campus Luleå also means that two more new buildings will be built with space for study environments, labs and offices. One building is planned to cover just over 49,000 square meters and the other just under 23,000 square meters.
The construction of the three new buildings means that the existing buildings E, F and K will be dismantled. The existing D building has also been dismantled previously. Where the E-building is currently located, a park will be built that can also serve as a possible expansion area for Luleå University of Technology's future needs.
The preliminary investment framework of SEK 5.5 billion will be divided into several separate investment decisions that require approval by both Akademiska Hus and Luleå University of Technology's boards. The development of the Future Campus Luleå also requires customary government decisions such as adjustment of the detailed plan and building permits to be realized.
