Future Campus Luleå

The campus area at Luleå University of Technology will undergo extensive development over a nine-year period. Three new buildings will strengthen the university’s operations and meet its need for flexible, modern facilities for high-quality education and research.

About the renovation

The development of Future Campus Luleå aims to create a more cohesive and long-term sustainable campus. Akademiska Hus plans to invest approximately SEK 5.5 billion in the initiative, which is carried out in close collaboration with Luleå University of Technology. The project will be implemented in phases over a ten-year period, with the long-term goal of completing the campus transformation by 2034.

About the project

  • Construction start: 2026
  • Operations: Education and research
  • Campus: Luleå
  • Completion: 2034
  • Tenant: Luleå University of Technology

G-block

As part of the development, three new buildings will be constructed to create modern environments for research, education and workplaces. The first building in the initiative will bring together the university’s vibration-sensitive research equipment in a specially adapted environment.

The building will comprise approximately 4,500 square metres and include a robust internal core designed to provide optimal conditions for precision measurements, experiments and technology development. Flexibility and adaptability are key design principles to ensure the building can meet future research needs.

D- and F-block

Premises for education and research are planned in the D-block. The building will house laboratories, offices, study environments and teaching rooms, as well as an arena for meetings and events. The building is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2031 or the beginning of 2032.

The F block will develop premises for laboratories, workshops and halls, as well as offices and study environments. The goal is for the building to be completed by the turn of the year 2032–2033.

Changes on campus

The development involves the dismantling of buildings E, F and K. The D building has also been dismantled before, and when the E building is removed, a new park or green space will be created on the site. It will serve as an open meeting place on campus and can also be used as a reserve ground for the university's future development. According to the current plan, the park will be completed in 2034.

Timeline

Preparatory groundworks will begin in 2026. The G Block is expected to be completed in 2029, while the D and F Blocks are scheduled for completion between 2031 and 2033. The long-term goal is for the development of Future Campus Luleå to be completed by 2034.

Changes in traffic and accessibility

In connection with the project, the through road on Laboratorievägen will be closed to public traffic in May or June 2026. The closure is needed for Akademiska Hus to be able to carry out earthworks, relay underground pipes and build new technical infrastructure and new buildings in the area. During the construction period, construction traffic will also occur on Laboratorievägen. Public transit and bus traffic are therefore being redirected. Information about alternative routes is provided by Luleå Public Transport and Luleå Municipality.
