Campus Solna is an important part of the emerging Hagastaden – the inner city district where Stockholm and Solna meet, and which is being developed with housing, retail, the metro, culture and park areas. Here, society, universities and business have also joined forces to create a successful regional hub for research and science that improves people's lives and health.
It is now clear that Xspray Pharma will move to the area in November 2023. To enable the move, Akademiska Hus will completely renovate parts of the Scheele Laboratory and create the state-of-the-art office and lab environments that Xspray Pharma needs to expand its operations on an area of approximately 1,500 square meters. As part of making the reconstruction as climate-smart as possible, sustainable material choices will be prioritised and reuse will take place where possible. Akademiska Hus will also install a new and more energy-efficient ventilation system.
"At Campus Solna, we will have modern premises and new advanced labs. The landlord Akademiska Hus is used to our type of business and is a reliable partner as we now enter a commercial phase, with several products to the market in the coming years," says Per Andersson, CEO of Xspray Pharma.
Previous investments for over half a billion
It was in connection with Karolinska Institutet's move of parts of its operations to the experimental research laboratory Biomedicum in 2018 that a unique vacancy arose that provides the opportunity for new companies to establish themselves in the field. In addition to the investment in the reconstruction of the Scheele Laboratory, Akademiska Hus has since invested more than half a billion SEK in other renovations on Campus Solna, with a focus on being able to offer life science businesses the opportunity to rent everything from a single office chair and lab bench to premises with space for larger lab environments and entire head offices. Of the renovations that have already been completed or that will be shortly, all areas are fully leased or have the goal of becoming so in 2023.
"There is great interest in moving to Campus Solna, which, with its strategic location directly adjacent to Karolinska Institutet, also provides proximity to a number of other government agencies, companies and organisations linked to education and research in medicine and health. We are very pleased to now welcome Xspray Pharma here and to the exciting development phase that the area is in," says Anna Alsborger, Property Director at Akademiska Hus.
The renovation of the Scheele Laboratory is expected to start in February 2023 and be completed in November of the same year.
