The campus plan is a joint vision and strategy document that shows how the area can be developed in interaction with the city. It serves as a support in both large and small decisions regarding the University's physical environment – both outdoors and indoors. The goal is to create the best possible conditions for the University's long-term development, while at the same time continuing to be an attractive and well-functioning place for students and staff in everyday life.
"The new campus plan sets the framework for campus development in the longer term, but it is also open and adaptable. It describes how the campus can be developed in its central location in Skövde and at the same time have close, attractive connections to the surroundings," explains the University's Vice-Chancellor Muriel Beser Hugosson.

Choices affect the campus environment
Adaptability is important because the University of Skövde's future premises needs are difficult to predict. The plan is therefore based on three different development scenarios. Regardless of which of the scenarios occurs, the University and the property owners will have to make different choices to develop the campus environment.
"The campus plan serves as our common compass for creating sustainable and inspiring environments. We want to develop the campus into an environment where both students and staff thrive and have the best conditions for their studies and work. We have our sights set on the future, but we shape the exact path there together along the way," says Caroline Arehult, CEO of Akademiska Hus.
Suggestions for concrete activities
The campus plan also includes a project plan with examples of possible measures. In the long term, this may involve developing new buildings adjacent to existing environments or improving entrances and paths to make the campus more accessible and clearly linked to the city.
"The campus plan is based on unusually strong conditions for creating an attractive and efficient area for the University with increased integration with the city's business and culture," says Charlotta Wallman Hörlin, CEO of Intea.
Broad collaboration behind the plan
The work on the campus plan has been going on for about a year and has been carried out in close collaboration between several actors. In addition to the University of Skövde and the property owners, Skövde Municipality and Science Park Skövde have also participated. Students have also contributed perspectives through dialogue and investigations.
Together, they create a common foundation for how the campus can continue to develop – step by step, in line with the needs of the future.
