On January 19th, two building acousticians will come to Samhällsvetarhuset to conduct acoustic measurements on the 5th floor. The purpose is to find out what sound reduction the partition walls and floors provide.
Two types of measurements will be carried out: horizontal and vertical measurements.
Horizontal measurements are made by playing a loud static/white noise in one room and placing a measuring device in an adjacent room, measuring the reduction of the sound through the wall. The noise will be disturbing to everyone in the vicinty but the sound does not need to be played for long.
For vertical measurements, a measuring device is placed on the floor below the transmitting sound source and thus there will be slight a disturbance also on 4th floor.
The measurements take place all day but only take 15-30 minutes at one location, including time to set up.
