The construction and real estate sector is far from circular at present, and in order to reduce climate emissions and resource consumption, new ways of working and reuse need to be put in place.
"There are several digital services for design and also for inventory of reusable building products, but they are currently not integrated with each other. In this project, we want to lay a foundation for a transition to circular design in the industry and support collaboration and information exchange between different actors," says Åsa Nilsson, project manager at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute.
The project has been granted funding in Vinnova's call "Green and digital transition" and will start in May 2023. It is led by IVL and is carried out in collaboration with Akademiska Hus, Kaminsky arkitektur, Kamtech and PE Technology and Architecture.
"Akademiska Hus has tough climate goals and will reach climate neutrality by 2035. To succeed, our focus on circularity needs to increase and more efficient processes for reuse need to be developed. We hope that the project will give us new insights into how digital flows and systems together can create better conditions for second hand in the first place," says Erik Florman, Head of Sustainability at Akademiska Hus.
The method that is being developed will facilitate flows between different digital services such as design tools in BIM and inventory services for reuse. The starting point is that reuse should be able to be integrated into the same workflow as when designing newly produced products, which will reduce administration and provide simpler and more cost-effective ways of working.
